Shopify now requires vape retailers to take nicotine products off their stores, in the UK as well as the US, and that includes fully compliant stock. Selling vapes is still legal. You need a platform that will keep you trading.

What vape retailers ask us most often before a move.

Is there a Shopify alternative for vape shops?

Yes. Our own eCommerce platform has no restriction on legal, compliant vape products, and it is the platform VPZ, with over 125 stores across the UK, sells on.

It is built, hosted and supported by us, with no platform or transaction fees, and you choose the payment gateway, EPOS and other systems it connects to.

Why can't I sell vapes on Shopify any more?

Shopify changed its rules in summer 2026 and now requires merchants to remove nicotine vaping products. It applies in the UK as well as the US, and covers legal, fully compliant products too.

It is a platform rule, not a change in UK law. Selling vapes responsibly is still legal, you just need a platform that allows it.

Who owns and hosts the platform?

We do. It is mtc.'s own eCommerce platform, built, hosted and supported by our team, and it is the platform VPZ runs on.

There are no platform or transaction fees, and no third party whose policy decides what you can list.

Which payment providers can I use?

Any provider that accepts vape merchants. Stripe, PayPal, Klarna, Adyen and Checkout.com all consider vape businesses case by case, with extra checks before they approve. We help you through the application, integrate the provider you choose, and you negotiate your rates with them directly.

Apple Pay and Google Pay don't allow vaping products, whichever provider you use, so they are left out of vape checkouts.

Can you move my products, customers and orders across?

Yes. We migrate products and variants, customers, order history, content and URLs.

Shopify does not export customer passwords, so customers set a new one the first time they sign in. We plan the messaging for that with you.

Will I lose my search rankings?

Any move carries some risk to rankings, so we plan for it from the start. Every existing URL is redirected to its new home, page titles and product content come across, and your analytics stay in place, so search engines and customers follow you to the new store.

Can you handle age verification?

Yes. We integrate the age verification provider you choose into checkout, and can add age-checked delivery and ID checks for click and collect on the products that need them.

How long does a move take?

It depends on the size of the catalogue and the systems involved. After an initial review of your store we give you a plan with dates, so you know when you will be trading again.
